Dona Helena (1924-2005) was born in one of the poorest regions in Brazil. Her love for the guitar and her humongous talent were all she had to make ends meet. The self-taught and illiterate Dona Helena was elected, in 1993, one of the top 100 guitar players in the world by American magazine “Guitar Player”.
